River Pointe’s Show Up Initiative – The Vision

“Because others decided to show up for us at River Pointe, our lives are forever changed.”
-Michael Cartwright, RPC Member since 2010

Jesus instructed His disciples to “Show Up” just like He did. The Great Commission tells us that since Jesus showed up for us, we should therefore go and be in the lives of others outside the faith so they too may experience this gift from God. This is the primary purpose of the church. God uses people to reach people, so we are charged with the responsibility to move beyond our comfort places and follow Christ into the lives of others. Showing up for others requires an eternal perspective, a passion for others, and a total surrender to God’s will. Living out this mandate is so difficult because it requires selflessness and sacrifice. Jesus said we were to die to self and pick up our cross and follow Him (Matthew 16:24). Showing up in strategic ways enables something eternal to happen in others. We do the showing up, and God does the transformational work.

Nothing is more powerful for a person than to have someone show up for them and keep showing up for them. when that happens, God changes people, families, and futures.

As the Body of Christ, we are empowered by the Holy Spirit to live out God’s redemptive purpose in our world (Acts 1:8). The people of River Pointe have been committed to reaching those outside the faith for the 15 years of this mission. When River Pointe began, there were just a few families gathered together, committed to showing up for others, and now we have over 4600 members ready to take the next step to reach our community for Jesus Christ. Imagine what might happen in our community and in our own lives if we took this great initiative so that other people could experience the hope found in a relationship with God. Over our history, each time there has been a need, the River Pointe family showed up in big ways to buy land, move to different high schools, help those in need, and to build our Richmond campus.
The financial investment and personal sacrifice made over the next 36 months will enable our mission to show up for thousands of new people. This is your invitation to begin the next 15 years as a church doing what brought us together to begin with: to show up and see God work in people’s lives.

The Cartwright's

“When you are facing a loss like we did, you don’t even know what to ask others to do for you. What we experienced at River Pointe was people putting themselves right in the middle of the most difficult time of our lives. We didn’t ask them to, they just showed up. Along the way, we met Jesus Christ in a personal way through the most difficult trial in our lives.”

-Michael & Stephanie Cartwright

“I know personally what’s at stake if nobody shows up for you. River Pointe has done that for me. Now, after 25 years of being away from my old neighborhood in North Richmond—what they used to call the ghetto — I can Show Up for others with my church family. And it’s awesome.”
